Welp, I was just officially informed that I didn’t make it past the first round of judging for the AICUO Awards.
I knew a couple of weeks ago that I didn’t make it when they announced that my fellow nominees (also illustration majors) - Julio and Kristy - did make it on the AAC Illustration Facebook group. They are totally amazing artists, and it’s awesome that BOTH OF THEM (AAC REPRESENT) made it into the 6 finalists!
To be honest, I didn’t know about the AICUO Awards until a few days of the portfolio being due in January. I didn’t even know I was nominated until practically the last second! I had to throw together a portfolio and send it off in just a few short days.
I am a little disappointed, though. (My friend Jess said I was a little salty. :B) I feel at a disadvantage for things like juried exhibitions and galleries and shows and things with judges because my work is very “non-fine-art” and hard for some people to really appreciate, I think. Julio and Kristy’s work is illustrative but closer to the fine art spectrum than my work.
BUT, my portfolio will be displayed online pretty soon when they finally put their website up! So all the other people who entered and all the people who will enter in the future will know how bad my art was when I was in college. LOL.
